This will be a broad ranging discussion covering advances in technologies and safety systems, and sustainability of the Australian industry given trends overseas.

Member for Chifley and Minister for Industry and Science, Ed was elected the Federal Member for Chifley in 2010 and was re-elected for his fifth term at the 2022 Federal Election.
Raised in western Sydney he attended local primary and secondary public schools, and was among the first waves of students to graduate from Western Sydney University.
He believes strongly in the power of bringing people from across the community together to improve the quality of life for all.
That’s why he's championed and worked for improved healthcare, broadband, infrastructure, education and community services for his area.
Ed has a strong interest in Australian tech and digital endeavour and been vocal about the need for our country to think ahead about the impact of technology on jobs and communities – to help prepare and get the most out the changes ahead.
For example, he has joined with business and community organisations to set up tech hubs to help 4,000 local public school students become familiar with the technology that will shape their lives in the years ahead.
Since his election, Ed has held a number of positions prior to becoming Minister for Industry and Science, serving within Labor’s Shadow Ministry across a range of portfolios, including Employment Services, Human Services, the Digital Economy and the Future of Work.
Prior to this, Ed was Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Parliamentary Secretary for Broadband.
Before entering Federal Parliament, Ed worked in roles spanning the private and public sectors.

Niklas Walter is Head of Sales at People Transport Solutions for Scania at Head Office in Sweden. Niklas joined Scania in 2012 and has held various operational and management positions within production and Global Sales. He holds a Master in Mechanical engineering from Lund University.
Niklas will present the European bus market; the industry today, and where Scania sees the future of the bus industry in Europe.

Eric Abetz is the Tasmanian Minister for Business Industry and Resources and Minister for Transport and Leader of the House following his election to the Tasmanian Government in March 2024. Previously he was a Senator for Tasmania from 1994 to 2022, representing the Liberal Party, In the Australian Government he was the Minister for Employment and the Leader of the Government in the Senate in the Abbott government from 2013 to 2015.[2] and previously also served as Special Minister of State in the Howard government from 2001 to 2006 and as Minister for Fisheries, Forestry and Conservation from 2006 to 2007.

This commitment has been a guiding force throughout his extensive career in the transport industry. Beginning in 1969, John started as a tourist coach driver as a means to explore Australia. In 1972, he joined Ansett Pioneer, taking on a role as Coach Driver before moving through the ranks into roles in Operations, National Training, and Sales & Marketing Manager NSW over a period of 19 years. After pursuing private business ventures, John spent 18 years with Scania Australia in bus and coach sales as part of a high-performing team. Since 2017, John has served as Major Account Manager NSW at Volgren Australia. He is highly regarded for his extensive industry knowledge and expertise.

Julian Gurney has served on the Council of the Bus Industry Confederation (BIC) every year since 2014. He was appointed BIC’s Vice Chair and Supplier Group Chair in February 2022. In his long service to the BIC council, Julian brings to the table a mature understanding and genuine support for the broad interests of BIC supplier members, contributing a balanced and fair view. Julian has been in the bus industry for 20 years, working for Scania Australia for 18 of those. In his most recent appointment as the Sales Director for Bus and Engine, Julian is responsible for managing retail and government bus sales as well as leading the Marine and Industrial Engines team.

Steve Heanes career in the heavy vehicle sector spans 40 years, starting on the workshop floor and progressing through to senior management and leadership roles. Steve worked for Ivecco for almost 30 years before being appointed as Managing Director of Irizar Australia in 2021. He is the former vice- chair of the Bus Industry Confederation and convenor of the Suppliers Group, roles he held for 10 Years.

Mitchell Peden is the General Manager of Volvo Bus Australia and has 15 years experience across Volvo Group spanning international markets, and 25 years experience in the automotive industry, Mitch previously held the role of Vice President Malaysia, Volvo Trucks International. Prior to this, he has held several positions in Australia including Vice President Volvo Truck Sales, Vice President, Marketing & Operations for Volvo Group Australia and regional sales roles for Volvo Trucks.
Entering the automotive industry in 1995, Mitch has worked across General Motors, Holden and Ford before commencing his time with Volvo Trucks Australia in 2006.

Jon Tozer has dedicated over 38 years to the bus industry. He began as an apprentice diesel mechanic at Grenda Bus Service and progressed to the role of workshop manager. He then moved to Volgren, where he spent the next 20 years holding various positions, including quality, sales, contract management, and business development manager for the Asia Pacific region. He played a crucial role in selling buses to Japan and overseeing the development of Volgren's first electric bus in 2019. Following that, he worked at Mercedes Benz Bus and Coach for 2 years. Currently, Jon serves as the director of BYD Commercial Vehicles, a position he has held for the past 18 months. His extensive experience and expertise have earned him a great deal of respect in the industry.
